HBO has released the first official trailer for Season 7 of Game of Thrones. What are some of the new Game of Thrones Season 7 theories that can emerge from the trailer?

Game of Thrones Season 7 Theories: Targaryen vs. Lannisters

Several times throughout the trailer, we see a clear battle of Dany’s Dothraki and Unsullied army taking on Lannister armies. In this scene (pictured below), we very clearly see Dany Targaryen’s army rushing a Lannister fortitude — likely Casterly Rock:

It’s obvious that Dany makes it to Westeros — probably within the first episode or two. They won’t keep her on a boat for too long. We see several scenes of her in Dragonstone (the ancient house of Targaryen).

The trailer makes it clear that she isn’t going to sit idly by once she reaches Westeros. Her armies are clearly set on taking more lands to help Dany rule Westeros — something she vows to do in the trailer. And it’s not like those Unsullied were rushing into an empty castle:

Yeah, that’s a battle.

Game of Thrones Season 7 Theory: Dany will defeat the Lannisters and take Casterly Rock

There are two very short — but very important — scenes shown in the  trailer that suggest Dany’s army will defeat the Lannister army, at least in the battle for Casterly Rock.

Here’s one scene (shown as a gif) that clearly shows Cersei irked about something.

Cersei always looks pretty peeved, but she’s clearly immensely angry in this scene. The way her hand moves like she wants to strangle someone, and the way her face contorts, makes it seem like she was just delivered some very bad news.

The theory is that in Game of Thrones Season 7, Dany’s army will defeat the Lannisters at Casterly Rock, and take over the castle. This scene is probably when Cersei is told of the news.

More evidence for Dany’s army defeating the Lannisters in the Game of Thrones Season 7 trailer

Need more supporting evidence? Here it is:

There’s a very short scene at the 1:22 mark of the trailer. There’s a table in Dragonstone — where Dany will be living, at least to start Season 7 — that is a wooden map of Westeros. They show it several times throughout the trailer.

However, at the 1:22 mark, we clearly see the Lion of Lannister being knocked over, as if defeated. Here is it in gif form:

Of course, Dany could be knocking over the Lion in preparation for the battle. Or she could be knocking it over after the battle is already completed to signify her victory. Which is it?

At the very least, it seems clear that the Lannisters and Targaryens will do battle at Casterly Rock. There’s also supporting evidence that Dany’s army will win the battle.

Does this mean that the head of the Lannister army (two-pronged between Jaime and Cersei) will die this season? Not necessarily (but if they do, Jaime might be the one to kill Cersei). But it clearly looks like the Lannisters will lose their homeland to Dany’s foreign army … and, you know, dragons.

Speaking of the dragons, they show up in the trailer as well.

There’s no snow on the ground in this image, so it’s safe to say this scene takes place in the south. Is it a part of the same Lannister battle for Castlery Rock? Or is it a different battle? Perhaps it’s just their arrival to Westeros? More on that later.
